Self-Respect is built by consistently engaging Passionate, Persistent, and Thoughtfully considered "practiced experience" in teaching ones self.  Subjects contributing to self-respect are constructive group related information/skills that diversely contributes to build group respect and related influence; this includes groups like family, and larger groups like humanity. The sharing that useful information/skills in support of group goals contributes to the shared growth of group influence, and related conveyed respect by others toward the group; and of the group toward the individual.

To build Self-Respect, individuals must identify groups "worthy" of passionate support, usefully mentor groups that lack direction, and shun groups/individuals that are self-destructive.

Seek out internships with businesses, even if not getting paid, to learn how the processes of business work so that you can learn those processes and start your own business in the future.  Seek out shadowing opportunities, where with a minimum of interaction you spend the day with an engineer, politician, physician... to learn how they express their skills, and the methods they used to achieve their positions of influence.

A group that engages in drug abuse and/or alcoholism permanently damages the brain tissues of their members and they cannot consistently think with logic, and therefore cannot consistently predict consequences associated with their decisions.  This creates uncontrollable risks that prevents influential people from reasonably offering limited resources to such groups/individuals.  Influential people/groups offer opportunities for the purpose of building low-risk significant opportunities (low risk determined from their experience, more gained than what is spent, achieving goals).  As a result, self-destructive groups/individuals only engage in either high risk (often criminal), or insignificant opportunities (meaningless waste not contributing to useful achievement); and tend to destroy opportunities others are trying to develop.

In a report, 54% of prison inmates used marijuana within two days before being arrested.  THC in marijuana contaminates receptors in brain tissue synapse; i.e. contaminates the ability to consistently think logically and unable to predict consequences.  Resulting in the typical pea-brained expressions of such users, and the families they harm.  Example: income spent on cigarettes, alcohol, and/or drugs is more than what is needed to pay for ones self, their spouse, or their child's tuition and subsequent funding to start a business and/or to build the skills to be useful as an engineer/scientist...

Destroying the brain is Suicide related to Personal Significance and Self-Respect.
